McClure brothers Larry, Ed, Jerry, Teddy and business partner
Tim Morgan began their racing venture in 1983. Working out
of a small facility in Abingdon, Va., Morgan-McClure Motorsports
(MMM) got its start with less than a handful of employees and
the nuts and bolts needed to field one NASCAR Sprintl Cup Series
entry.
Hard work by each of the owners has played a vital role in
the team's success, which includes 14 wins, 63 top-fives, 145
top-10s and 13 pole positions. Tim serves as president of
the organization, while Larry fills the role of General Manager. Brothers Ed (MMM vice president)
and Teddy (body shop manager) McClure serve at the MMM facility. In addition to their responsibilities
with the race team, Jerry oversees the Morgan-McClure dealership
in Castlewood, Va., and Tim oversees the dealership in Coeburn,
Va.
MMM won its first Sprint Cup race in 1990 at Bristol Motor Speedway
with driver Ernie Irvan behind the wheel. In 1991, Irvan
piloted MMM to its first of three Daytona 500 victories (back-to-back in ’94, ’95),
placing it in a tie for fourth in all-time wins in NASCAR’s
season-opening “Super Bowl.” Other accomplishments
place MMM in an elite group of five active teams to win at
both road course venues (Watkins Glen International, Infineon
Raceway).
In winning tradition, Morgan-McClure has been instrumental
in guiding top names in the sport to their first Sprint Cup victories.
Both Ernie Irvan and Sterling Marlin posted their first Sprint Cup
career wins with the team.
Today, one can visit the sprawling MMM compound located outside Abingdon
and see that enormous progress has taken place over the last
two decades. MMM continues to maintain the facilities and experience necessary to field a competitive, first-class Sprint Cup race team. Additionally, the MMM complex also holds a 25,000 sq. foot museum, with MMM's decorated history, that is currently on hiatus, as well as reatail and warehouse space that can be utlized by potential corporate partners.
