Morgan-McClure Motorsports to attempt Bristol

Abingdon, VA (August 16, 2010)— Nearly 20 years after scoring their first Sprint Cup Series victory at Bristol Motor Speedway, Morgan-McClure Motorsports will return to the high banks for the running of the Irwin Tools 500.

The Abingdon, VA-based organization announced today that Alpha Natural Resources, Inc., a leading United States coal producer, and Joy Mining Machinery, a global leader in the development, manufacture, distribution, and service of underground mining equipment  have partnered together to bring the “hometown  team” back to the track to attempt the 100th Sprint Cup Series race at BMS.  Kevin Lepage, a native of Vermont, will pilot the familiar No. 4 Alpha Natural Resources/ Joy Mining Machinery Chevrolet Impala at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” and veteran Larry Carter will serve as the team’s crew chief for the event.

“We are very excited for the opportunity to bring the No. 4 back to the track, especially at Bristol,” stated Morgan-McClure Motorsports President Tim Morgan. “We are thankful that Alpha (Natural Resources) and Joy Mining Machinery have come on board to make this possible for our team.  We’ve always enjoyed racing in front of the local fans that have supported us through the years and we are hopeful that this will lead to additional races in the future.”

“I am looking forward to being back behind the wheel of the No. 4 Chevrolet,” added Kevin Lepage.  “They say that the third time’s a charm so hopefully that will be true for us this weekend.  I am also looking forward to working with Larry Carter.  He has a lot of experience in this industry (27 years) and I believe he and the rest of the MMM boys will give me a great car to drive this weekend.”

Mick Risdon, vice president of strategic sourcing and materials management at Alpha Natural Resources also added, “We are excited to once again be sponsoring the Morgan-McClure No. 4 car in the upcoming race at the Bristol Motor Speedway.  NASCAR racing is an important part of the area’s culture and our coal miners, and we’re happy to be a part of it along with our key supplier partners, Joy Global.”

Lou Boltik, Director of Marketing Communications, also acknowledged his excitement about co-sponsoring the No. 4 MMM Chevrolet: “We are proud to partner with Alpha Natural Resources as a sponsor for Morgan-McClure Motorsports at the August 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.  The coal miners that operate our equipment have always had a strong connection with racing and none stronger than with NASCAR.”
